Summary

   In this article, the author mention the education about the engineering is every important in America. In today’s America, there are not enough children consider to be interesting in science, math and engineering. The author also mention six ways to promote the American engineering: First, let children to experience how interesting the science is it. Second, we need to give more chances and opportunities to the people who are not interested in the science, which including the girls and the minorities, to let them understand what is science and how interesting is it. Third, we should give the students more confidence about the engineering; also we need to teach them when they are in middle school and high school. Fourth, we need to explain to the US students what the engineers and what they do, also why this job is important. Finally, we need to change the immigration policy which can let more students come to America, also let them stay here. If we can do these five to promote the American engineering, a lot of problems would be easy to solve.

   In this article, I am agreeing with the author mention about the education for the engineering is very important in the US. In our today’s life, science is developing every day, if a country needs to develop, it must to lead or follow the science development. Although there are many majors we can choose in today’s university, such as business, marketing, management, etc; also only the major about the science can help the countries to improve technology, which including engineering, physics, chemistry, etc. Also, my major is mechanical engineering, the reason why I choose this major is not the author mention which is interesting about it, it just because not many people interesting to choose this major, and I can easier to get a job after graduate than other majors. However, I also agree with the author mention about that not enough children consider being interesting in science, math and engineering, particularly among girls and minorities, maybe it is good for me, but it is not good for a country to develop. Therefore, promote engineering education is very important for a country.

Summary

Base on the event in the east of Tripoli, the political instability give a lot of attack to the region and the world economy, expect the worth market of the oil, but Saudi Arabia has their tried their best to solve this problem. If the Saudi Arabia’s people want to solve the problem, they just can support Abdulab’s regime. At the same time, base on the Saudi Arabia’s power, the consultants say Saudi Arabia will escape from the turmoil; However, Saudi Arabia has a very strong system to protect their oil production, the oil production company also has a strong system to protect their worker’s benefits, including education, health, and allowance. Meanwhile, if the event keeping worse, the world economy will have an unprecedented problem.

Reaction

I am very interested reading this article, because in these few month our gas price was getting higher and higher, from about 1.5 dollar per gallon of gas in the summer of 2009 to 3.12 dollar per gallon of gas now ( in Los Angles, the gas is going to 4.1 dollar per gallon. Face to these terrible problem, nobody must ask why the price is so high, and why the government didn’t control it, because transportation is very important for every American people, and the main energy for the transportation is gas. Also this article explains the reason of the gas price is getting higher.

 My major is Mechanical Engineering, after I read this article; I have a question why our transportation’s main energy cannot change from gas to another energy, from example, solar energy or eclectic energy. Base on our today’s life, almost every transportation are using gas for their main energy, including cars, ships, and airplanes. And gas price is affected by many reasons, if we can change gas energy to other energy, a lot of problems would easy to solve in our life.

Summary

   In this article, the author describe the Watson which was an IBM super computer created by twenty five IBM scientists for four years. It got a champion of the TV game show, and it also called a technological breakthrough. Therefore, some scientists made a question, can use this super computer to create another one super computer? But, the answer is the technological is far from this step. And in this article, the main point which the author discuss is between the computer and the human are very different, because a lot things computer cannot do but human can, for example emotion, tasting, and feeling. But also the Watson would give us a lot of benefit, for example can help us to create and fix a search system. Finally, the author also mention, this computer would give Google a big challenge.

Reaction

   In this article, I was very interested in reading about the author describe the new technology, because my major is Mechanical Engineering. In this major, we also need to upgrade ourselves, because having a lot of the unbelievable new technology for everyday. After I read this article, the Watson gives me many ideas and questions.

   Now, we have this super computer, one of the most important questions is we can use it for what or where can give us the most benefit. Also, I have some ideas, astronomy is a mystery for us, because in the space have a lot of things and questions we don’t understand. So, Watson maybe can help us to solve a lot of questions about the astronomy. But, the Watson also can give us fear, because the Watson can give benefit, also can give us harm, for example, if the terrorist get the Watson, our life and our country’s security will become very dangerous. So how to use the Watson is a very important question.
